Be "In The Know"
- Please be aware that theft is a problem in some areas. Especially in large parking areas. Take the same precautions you would use in any large urban area.
- Some Lodging rates may change based on number of rooms available at a given moment and can change hourly. This type of policy has been known to take people off-guard.
- Traffic into the downtown Wisconsin Dells (Dells River District) is funneled through the Wisconsin River Bridge. During "peak" Weekend hours this can be a slow and maddening experience. To give yourself a little less stress it is a good idea to go into the downtown area early in the morning and return in the later evening if possible. Parking is often hard to find if you are not familiar with the downtown area. Watch for signs or just take a side street north or south from the main drag. Either direction will basically take you into residential areas where street parking is normally more readily available.
The Don’ts
- Don’t come without reservations. Especially on weekends and holidays. Every year since the dawn of time vacationers wait in lines, sleep in parking lots, and drive for hours because the did not make reservations. In summer even our campgrounds are often full. Adults and kids get cranky and the whole vacation goes down from there. Please Make Reservations.
- Don’t allow your children to run freely in amusement parks, natural areas and stores. Each year kids can get hurt or killed. Your children can drown in the many rivers, lake and pools. Devil’s Lake and other natural areas have high cliffs. Please care for your children.
- Don’t Swim or paddle in the Wisconsin River if you’re not experienced. Every year people drown. Often it’s children and teenagers. The river has an incredible undertow. Also sandbars which seem solid often can become like quicksand in a matter of seconds.
- Don’t Hurry. Choose less activities on your itinerary. You will enjoy your vacation more if you drive less. Again too many people are hurt in car accidents each year. Especially on Highway 12. SLOW DOWN!
